It goes without saying that many of us are living on a budget these days. So, when the summer holidays roll around, many of us find ourselves scratching our heads and wondering how we can entertain the kids without hurting our bank balance.
Whether it’s ice creams at the beach, a day at a theme park, a day trip to a landmark or a visit to the beach, family days out always seem to come with unexpected price tags. So, here you’ll find a few handy ideas of how you can save money over the summer period and still have the greatest summer yet.
Why not give these ideas a try?
Switch up your lighting
It’s been proven that if you switch your home lighting to LED’s then you can save a bundle. LED lights not only last for years they also use less energy, making them better for the environment too. You can easily switch and save! You might not use your indoor lights as much during the summer months, but now is the time to change them before winter creeps up on us again!
Wash the car at home
It’s summer, so you want your car to look all shiny and sparkly right? Well, why not get the kids involved? Avoid those expensive car washes at the local garage and get out buckets of water and the hose pipe. The kids will have a great time soaping up the car and rinsing it off again. This will not only keep the entertained for a few hours, but it’ll make for some great photo opportunities too! Just make sure your car is parked away from the road so no one accidently walks into oncoming traffic. If little ones are involved them mum and/or dad should join in the fun too!
Head to the library
When was the last time you visited the local library? Your kids will feel a sense of importance when they’re handed their very own library card. And they can go back to the library as many times as they wish over the summer period – which means they’ll have enough fun and educational materials to last them all summer long. Local libraries usually have free events on too, whether it’s story time or imaginative play, get in touch with yours to find out what’s going on.
BBQ & Camping
During the warm and long summer evenings, we all want to eat out more and take the kids on a camping trip. While the reality is quite expensive, there’s no reason why you can’t go camping in your own backyard! Spend the morning pitching the tent and preparing the BBQ for the evening feast – don’t forget the marshmallows!
Why not consider cancelling your streaming and on-demand services over the summer? If you’re planning on being out and about more during the days and nights, you probably won’t miss it. Think of the money you could save to spend on all those extra ice creams.
