The next room on our list for decorating is the bathroom. It is probably one of the most unloved rooms in the house but a place where everyone spends a lot of their time.
We have a plan to do a Nautical theme throughout, as when we were shopping in The Range we saw a whole host of items that we loved. The best thing is none of them were expensive and I think they will set the bathroom off nicely.
The Plan of Action
- Gut out the bathroom
- Build a radiator cover
- Build a new bath pannel
- Paint the walls and ceiling
- Build a under the sink cupboard
- Re-tile the walls and the back of the bath
- Swing the door around the other way to create more space
We have a plan to do it all over one weekend and I am really looking forward to doing it.
My partner is a builder so it makes it easier to do a lot of these things, especially the building of our own cupboard, radiator cover and bath panel. This all saves a lot of money and it also means we don’t need any professional help with doing any of the greater tasks.
We are trying to get the whole flat fully decorated before the summer so we can enjoy it and hopefully in time be able to do a flat swap to somewhere a little quieter.
Obviously decorating can be highly expensive and when you are trying to do it in dribs and drabs it can become quite time consuming. Not only that but sometimes it’s hard to have all the cash you need at the right moment in time, sometimes if you need cash short term, you could look into loans to help you get by and do certain things you want to do like decorate.
I’ve also been looking into new flooring for the bathroom. The floor in there isn’t too old as I only had it fitted in last year but I want something a bit more hard wearing. We have decided we are going to tile the floors in there and the toilet, as they are easier to clean, don’t become waterlogged like lino can and create a bit more warmth in the room.
We won’t be doing that until we decorate the toilet though as we want to buy matching tiles and aren’t too sure on what we are going to do with it. Although I am totally in love with these Laura Ashley Floor Tiles from The Bath Store.
I’m absolutely loving that the flat is coming along so nicely now as I have been wanting to decorate it properly for years but because it’s a council property I have had to wait for them to do certain works to the walls, electrics and ceilings before I have been able to. I didn’t see the point in doing it before when it would all get ruined while they did their works.
Once the bathroom is done I shall do another post with before and after pictures so you can see how much it has changed.
