As a lot of you know I am in the middle of doing up my flat. We have completely overhauled the front room, given the kitchen a new lease of life and spruced up the bathroom. Tapanga’s bedroom has also been re-wallpapered and given a new lease of life to fit with how she is growing up. Hopefully this will last her well into her grown up teenage years or at least until she is off to university.
This has got me dreaming about my ideal home, a house instead of a flat and all the things I would do to it.
Firstly I would love to have a beautiful but modest 3 bedroom house, I want space for Tapanga and I to have a bedroom each and one for my home office. A front and back garden, an attic to be able to store everything and a huge kitchen as I feel that’s the heart of the home.
I posted before about how I would like to decorate my bedroom and I am still highly in love with the design. I want deep blues and turquoises with pale pastel pinks and purples, lots of soft furnishings and a huge fluffy rug. I couldn’t be too specific with what furniture I would want until I saw what I was working with but I know dark oak would be my wood of choice.
For Tapanga I know she would love a bedroom like the one she already has. It’s got silver glitter wallpaper with a huge make up themed feature wall. Her furniture is white with all other accents being black, it really works together and is the ultimate teenage boudoir.
I would love my office to be light and airy, in shades of grey and pale pink. I would set it off with beautiful crisp white furniture, bronze accents and a huge chair that I could sit and relax in.
I actually love the design of my bathroom at the moment and would definitely recreate it in my dream home, just on a larger scale. It nautical themed with huge anchors and oars on the wall, I would set it off with lots of shells and other nautical themed bits. All in white and blue obviously.
I love the open plan look when walking into a house and I know my ideal home would have a huge open space. I would love a kitchen filled with beautiful chrome fixtures, huge units and a big island in the middle. The kitchen really is the place where everyone seems to congregate at any gathering in the home and it’s a place I spend a lot of my time. The living area I would like to keep quite light and airy, quite possibly white with a feature wall for a pop of colour. I quite like blues and greys, so would keep my colour theme fitting with that.
Because the areas would roll into one it can sometimes get a bit too much so I would definitely look into getting bifolding doors to close off one room from another without losing that open plan feel. How much is a bifold door? Well, they differ in price compared to the size you want but, I say they’re an investment that can help with privacy and keep your home looking how you might want it.
I’m hoping one day my home dreams can come true, then I can have fun decorating all the spaces how I have always dreamed of.
What would your ideal home look like?
