I had a completely different post planned for today but I just couldn’t help to address how completely and utterly proud I am of the little human being in my life.
When I fell pregnant with Tapanga I was 16 years old. My pregnancy was filled with ups and downs, it was troubled from the start and to be honest I just didn’t know in what direction it was going to go. I had to get scanned every week to make sure she was okay as there was something with me, then one day when we wasn’t fully prepared they said “Everything isn’t normal, we are sending you upstairs now to have your baby!”. The fear that ran through me of the possibility this precious little thing could possibly be harmed scared me so much and I can still to this day remember it.
Today marks her very last day in primary school and I can’t believe how much she has grown in the last 11 years. She is a beautiful, well rounded child and I couldn’t of asked for a child with a better nature. She received a glowing end of year report and exceptional SATs results, with her teacher praising her in every way possible.
She’s very emotional to be leaving her school, all of her teachers and most of all, her friends. She has a year of 60 children and most of them are going to the same secondary school, with the exception of a few who are going to different schools. Tapanga is going to a different school to all of her friends, but like I said in a previous post the school she is going to is the school of her dreams and she is going to fully thrive there. It’s a school that has a lot of influence from the arts, with a fully equipped recording, drama and dance studio as well as a fantastic art programme. All of which Tapanga has been focused on since before she could talk…. Her first full sentence was lyrics from Justin Timberlakes’ Sexy Back!.
We have just been to her leavers performance and to say it was a little emotional is an understatement. It’s crazy to think that these kids that we have seen grow up throughout the years will no longer be part of our daily lives, teachers we have grown to love we shall never see and a school that helped Tapanga grow into a lovely young lady is one day going to be a distant memory.
I’m just so exceptionally proud of the young lady Tapanga has become and I really couldn’t be happier with the direction her life is going in right now. I’m also thankful for being able to grow up with her and for her teaching me how to love unconditionally, I can’t wait to see where the next stage of her life takes us.
