Something I have come to notice over the last few years is the fact that my hair has started thinning. It has gone from being a beautiful thick healthy head of hair to a shadow of its former self. No one would really know if they were to look at it though as I am the queen of trickery when it comes to my hair, a quick flick of the comb here, blow of the blow dryer there and a spray at the end, the magic is complete. I’m going to share a few tips with you on how to get your hair looking fuller and thicker if you’re starting to feel a little lacklustre.
Stop washing your hair!
Okay, I don’t mean completely, but I do mean every day. This is only going to make your hair prone to breakage due to the fact you’re stripping all them natural oils out and making it really brittle. Try going every three or four days to see how it goes.
Put down that towel and that brush while you’re at it!
Please, for the love of god stop rubbing your hair with a towel and yanking it with a brush while its wet. This is going to cause so much damage and make your hair prone to breakage. Instead pat it dry or better yet leave it to dry naturally, as for the brushing try using a wide tooth comb teasing any tangles rather than yanking them.
Stop using heat every day
Heat can really damage your hair, yet again causing it to break and look thin. The worst part for someone like me who’s hair also falls out is all that tugging can make excess strands drop. Some simple yet effective root lift tricks without adding heat is to just simply change what side you wear your parting on, back comb in the areas you need a little lift, and use dry shampoo throughout your hair to add texture to make it appear thicker and fuller.
Perfect your blow dry
If you are going to use heat on your hair make sure you’re going to use it right. Perfecting your blow dry can be hard but once you have the knack you’re going to be whacking it out like a pro. Blow dry your hair in the opposite direction to how you want it to fall to really give it that root lift, then set it with a cool shot, this will hold your style all day long. Once you get the hang of it you can then have a play around by adding curls for more volume, keeping the straighteners well away from your hair.
Rethink your cut and colour
Even if your hair is falling out or thinning having a good cut can actually boost the way it looks by adding a bit of depth in the terms of layers, creating volume in areas. Also just adding a few highlights here and there can trick the eye into making your hair look thicker and fuller.
Obviously when your hair starts to thin and fall out it can really knock your confidence, I know it doesn’t make me feel as great as I used to as I can’t do all the things I used to be able to with my hair. Luckily we live in a day now where there are so many treatments on offer from natural supplements to hair transplants where you can get a beautiful head of hair to give you all the confidence in the world. They aren’t just designed for the likes of Wayne Rooney either, women can benifit from them all the same given them the beautiful head of hair they once had or have craved their whole life.
