I shall let you in on a little secret, I am not that much of a chocolate fan. Yep, you heard me right. I am more for the savoury things in life and if I have to go for a sweet tasting treat it would definitely be in the form of sweets, cake or pastry. That was until I got the chance to taste some of the offerings from Simply Chocolate and my view on how great chocolate could taste was formed.
Simply Chocolate is a company based in Copenhagen that truly loves chocolate. They take the finest raw chocolate on the market and mix it with the best natural ingredients, showing a lot of love in the process. Something I feel you can really taste when eating a bar. Their bars are filled with a lot of different ingredients including nuts, grains and berries. Spelt flakes and oatmeal, as well as spicing things up with chilli, ginger, cinnamon, vanilla and liquorice.
I tried out three different flavours of Simply Chocolate and it really was like a taste sensation. Well, I say I tried out three, I actually tried out two as I am not a fan of marzipan so I didn’t try Dark Marci. I gave it to a friend instead who loves marzipan and got their opinion.
A centre of marzipan made from 60% sweet Valencia almonds covered in a double layer of 60% chocolate. This sublime mix creates a magic melting feeling when sweet and bitter is combined.
This is the one my friend tried and I was informed that it was utterly delicious. It wasn’t overly sweet like some marzipan’s can be and the richness of the dark chocolate was beautiful and smooth, they really complimented each other well. It was definitely a bar she would be wanting to buy more of.
Made of homemade muesli based on organic oatmeal, spelt flakes, homemade caramel and peanuts, everything covered in dark 60% chocolate.
Grainy Sue is nothing other than beautiful. It was everything you want a bar like this to be, chewy and gorgeous. The dark chocolate really set off the whole bar giving it a bitter edge and in no way did I feel like I was eating a bar that was based off muesli. Definitely a bar to try.
Made of dark 60% chocolate with salted almonds
THIS! This bar, oh, this bar! This is the bar of dreams. Honestly, if I could eat a Salty Fred every day I would. That is how good this bar is. I think it’s possibly because for me it leans more towards the savoury side of things, it has a slight tinge of sweetness but it is perfectly bitter and salty. I just adore it. If you aren’t really a chocolate lover or love the more unusual flavours of chocolate I think this one is definitely one for you as it really is a taste sensation.
So there you have it, Simply Chocolate the best chocolate I have ever tasted.
Simply Chocolate is sold at John Lewis with prices starting at £2.00
