With the British summer finally arrived, and hopefully staying for a while, it is the perfect time to get friends over to wine and dine in the garden till the sun sets. It’s time to get your garden in tip-top shape.
The lawn is the first item on the list. After a long winter and a spring that never seemed to have happened, your lawn might be in a crisis. You can get some quick growing grass seed to fix any patches. With the right temperature and humidity, you can get any bare spots looking all green and tidy. Stopgap fixes are fine in the short term, but lawns do require some planning to maintain well. As you can sow grass seed until late Autumn, it is usually best to wait until you can get rid of all the weeds in your garden. It is usually best to wait till all the weed have grown so you can do it all in one go. It takes a bit of planning, but it is well worth it.
As for plants and flowers, it is genuinely dealer’s choice. Nowadays you have a fantastic array of options from pretty much any shop, from seeds to fully grown plants and flowers. Planting lavender, citronella grass, and scented geraniums not only give your garden a perfect summer party smell, but rumour has it that it also keeps mosquitoes away. Also, consider basil and rosemary for their appetite-inducing fragrance and having it to hand to add for flavour.
A good garden party usually runs into the late hours, long after the sun has set. Consider methods to keep warm. Either big blankets or a source of heating. A fire pit nowadays comes in different shapes and forms, and there is bound to be one that doesn’t look out of place in your garden. A crackling fire is also great to make s’mores on!
Give your late night even more oomph by getting a garden tent or gazebo. Not only does it give you some flexibility with the unpredictability of English weather, but it also makes the get together more intimate. Consider lights as well. Garden lights, string lights or even tea lights bring everything together nicely.
Have plenty of seating for your guests. It does not all have to be garden armchairs, bean bags and even the odd hammock will give your friends all the opportunity to enjoy your evening. If you wanted to add even more class, consider getting decking. Not only is decking easy to maintain, but it also looks great and even could add value to your house.
Once you have created the perfect garden party environment, you will have to decide on foods and drinks. A few good bottles of wine will get you started for drinks. Concerning food, do consider that people come over for your company and not the perfect fine dining experience. Make it easy for yourself, order some party food in. Enjoy the company, drinks, and sunset!
