Today on Twitter I was having a conversation with another blogger about how much make up we own and how we would be scared to tot up the total to see what our collections are actually worth, so it got me thinking how much is the cost of beauty?.
We all spend stupid amounts of money on Lipsticks, Blushers, Foundations, Eyeshadow and various other things we put on our faces, not to mention the amount we spend on skincare and haircare looking for the next best thing but how much of it do we really use? How much of our money are we dwindling down the drain over things we don’t actually need or get used? I know for myself that is a lot! I spend money on things like it is going out of fashion always trying something new when in reality all I do is go back to my old faithful products that I know work well and I would without a batter of an eyelid repurchase over and over again. Don’t get me wrong its good to try something new every once in a while and its amazing when you find a new product that blows an old one out of the water but…. We all carelessly pick up products thinking ‘Oh its only £5.99, I’ll just grab one’ or ‘Oh its 3 for 2 so I must buy three’ but at what point do you stop and go ‘Will I actually use it? Do I have other colours like it? Am I just buying this because it looks pretty?’ 99% of the time I can tell you, I have never said that to myself and I can bet a lot of you haven’t either.
Now I can tell you I have a lot of make up and when I say a lot I actually mean it, it currently takes up 5 draws and 2 boxes in my wardrobe but yet I only have one face! I’m not someone who gets overwhelmed by collections and needing to buy it all but I do have a penchant for gorgeous make up and I love the colours so this is why I have so much but then this conversation made me think…. What could I buy if I didn’t spend so much on make up?
Here are a few things I grabbed out of my collection just to show how much a few things can just add up to…
MAC MSF – £20.50
MAC Mineralise Blusher – £19.00
5 MAC Lipsticks – £13.50 Each (Total £67.50)
YSL Rouge Volupte – £23.50
New CID Gloss – £14.00
Benefit Lipgloss – £14.00
Bella Bamba – £23.50
2 NARS Blushers – £20.50 Each (Total £41.00)
Illamasqua Blusher – £16.50
Illamasqua Lipstick – £15.50
Illamasqua Lipgloss – £13.00
Illamasqua Pigment – £15.50
Total price – £283.50
This actually makes me feel sick that just adding up just 17 items is nearly £300 what makes me feel a little better is the fact I didn’t pay full price for a few of them things but even still the savings I made on them were only around the £25-£30 mark so that’s still around £250.
What could that £250 of bought me instead?
A holiday, according to Teletext holidays these are some I could of got…
7 Nights in Ibiza – £223
7 Nights in Puerto Rico – £233
7 Nights in Tunisia – £209
And then there is so much more I could of done with it to, like redecorated a room, bought a new TV, put it towards flights to Australia to meet my sister or put it in Tapangas trust fund.
So this has really opened my eyes to what is the price of beauty and why am I spending so much on it, because quite frankly I don’t know and the only answer I can give is that I like to shop, I like make up and I’ve never thought of it like this before. I haven’t made any new years resolutions because I couldn’t think of ones I actually wanted but I have finally decided on two….
*To not spend money on things I don’t need*
*Every time I see something and know for sure I would of bought it, put the cost of it in a jar to see how much over time I would of wasted*
