A couple of Thursdays ago we went for dinner at Jamie’s Italian in Covent Garden and I have to say it was one of the best experiences I have had in a restaurant.
We arrived a little late due to their being an insane amount of traffic on the road but that wasn’t a problem as they keep the table you have booked for around 15 minutes after your booking time, I also called to say we were running late and they said they would keep it open for as long as possible for me. I thought this was great as some places just wouldn’t care.
I was quite surprised when we entered Jamie’s Italian as I didn’t know what to expect, it was warm and lively with music playing. I loved this as it made it feel like a place for everybody; you could go there with your family, friends or a date. I also loved how warm and friendly the staff were from beginning to end, they were never over bearing but always around if you needed something.
When browsing the menu it was so hard decide what we wanted, everything sounded so great. We settled on getting some drinks and starters first which was a lovely start to the night. We ordered cocktails because its always great to have a cocktail. The adults chose a Passion Fruit Royal which is a lovely refreshing, fruity drink with a great kick of prosecco while Tapanga ordered a Refresher off the non alcoholic cocktail menu, this was gorgeous and actually tasted a bit like sherbet.
For starters we ordered a bread board and olives, which were absolutely devine, The bread was served with olive oil and balsamic, as well as a chutney which was a lovely accompaniment. The olives were served with the same chutney and music bread which was lovely.
When we got to mains I already knew what I was getting as I had checked the menu before going but everyone else had to have a good old nose, it took them ages to decide and they kept on swapping and changing before finally settling on their meals.
I chose the Crispy Duck Leg which was probably the best duck I have ever had, it was succulent and crispy. The duck was served with a gorgeous Sicilian aubergine caponata (seriously, this had the be the most delicious thing I have tasted!) and a fennel and orange salad. Tapanga chose to get The Jamie’s Italian Burger with Chilli Fries, she loved this. The burger is served in a brioche bun with pancetta, balsamic onions, Westcombe cheddar and their house special sauce. I had a little taste of the burger and it was insanely beautiful, it definitely gave me food envy. My other guest settled on getting Penne Arrabbiata which was beautiful and tomatoey, with a definite chilli kick. They loved it.
Now onto my favourite part of the meal – Dessert!
I can’t even put into words how great all of these desserts were but I am going to try. I had the Molten Chocolate Praline Pudding which was so soft and chocolatey with an oozing praline centre that just flowed out of it. It tasted like angels could have been responsible for making it as it was definitely heaven on earth. Tapanga ordered the Epic Chocolate Brownie which comes with proper chocolate sauce, salted caramel ice cream and caramelised popcorn. The brownie was so soft and gooey just like a brownie should be, while the salted caramel ice cream really cut through the overall richness of the dessert. It was beautiful. My other guest chose to go for the ice cream option, you get three scoops and a choice of two toppings. They chose to have vanilla and salted caramel ice cream, with caramel sauce and amaretti biscuits. The ice cream was gorgeous and silky with the toppings really making it a really lovely dessert for the end of the meal.
Our experience at Jamie’s Italian Covent Garden was so fantastic and I would 100% recommend it. I am already planning a trip back there with my friend for dinner.
